Namibia In Disarray, Ahead Clash With Nigeria

Namibia coach, Roger Palmgren  resigned barely six weeks into the job and just two days to the Brave Warriors 2014 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Namibia Football Association  (NFA) President, John Muinjo announced the resignation Sunday evening.

Muinjo said Palmgren tendered his resignation with immediate effect this weekend due to ‘serious death threats’ directed towards him and his family.

The coach failed to fly back with the rest of the squad from Malawi and flew instead to South Africa at the weekend.

Palmgren was appointed head coach of the Brave Warriors on May 1 and has been in charge for just two games.

The first, an international friendly against Zambia on May 25 before last week’s 0-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw against Malawi in Blantyre The NFA announced that Ricardo Mannetti, assisted by Ronnie Kanalelo, will be in charge of the team’s match against Nigeria today.

“We call upon the nation to continue rallying behind the Brave Warriors in our quest for qualification to Brazil 2014,” the NFA said in a press release.
