Man, 27, Bags Three Months Imprisonment
One Ayuba Haruna of Dagba Village, Area 1 Garki, Abuja, was yesterday sentenced to three months imprisonment by a Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court for stealing a 42-inch flat screen television.
Haruna had pleaded guilty to the charge read to him by the police prosecutor, Sgt. Mohammed Garba.
Garba, 27, told the court that the convict stole the LG television when all the workers had closed at Tee and Cee Garden, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, on May 24.
“The garden belongs to one Mrs Ngozi Okirika, and the television, worth N130,000, was later recovered from the convict.’’
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code and urged the court to give the convict summary trial in view of his plea.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Aminu Abdullahi, said Haruna was sincere enough to have pleaded guilty to the charges of criminal trespass and theft without wasting the time of the court.
“I hereby find you guilty as charged. The sentence would serve as deterrent to others. You are to serve a prison term of one month for trespass and two months for theft.”
He told him to desist from any act that could destroy his future.
