King Sunny Brown Mourns Odiase, Fatai-Rolling Dollar
Nigeria’s foremost High Life King, Sunny Brown has expressed shock over the demise of great high life Icons, Benedict Odiase and Fatai Rolling Dollars. He described their death as a great loss to Nigeria and the music world.
King Sunny Brown who spoke with The Tide Entertainment on Wednesday, prayed God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the huge loss. He stressed that the memories of his departed colleagues in the high life world would linger for generations.
He called on the federal government and other agencies to contribute towards setting up a good foundation for musicians in the country so as to encourage the development of the music industry as well as create a welfare programme to take care of the old musicians whose patriotic contributions have brought fame and recognisation to the country.
The highlife master called on the various stakeholders of the King Sunny Brown (KSB) music foundation to redeem their pledges so that the foundation could take off effectively.
He noted that lack of finance has remained a major hindrance to the foundation.
It would be recalled that two great highlife artistes died under 24 hours. While Benedict Odiase who composed the Nigerian national Anthem died on Tuesday night in his sleep at his Oregun, Lagos home, Fatai Rolling Dollars died the next day (Wednesday) morning at a Surelere, Lagos Mainland hospital. Fatai Olayinwola Olagunju aka Fatai Rolling Dollars reportedly mentored great musicians such as King Sunny Ade and Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey.
