Keshi Still Experimenting With Strikers

Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi has admitted that he is still tinkering with his strike force to get to find his best combination.

Since losing the sharpest tool in his box in Emmanuel Emenike during the African Nations Cup, Keshi has also lost the penetrating Victor Moses for his summer fixtures.

And so while his defence and midfield personnel remain relatively fixed barring injury and suspensions, Keshi has shuffled his attacking pack around as he searches for goals. The Nigerian coach said that the situation has left him in a bit of a conundrum.

“It’s a shame that we don’t have Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses, so I have to continue to experiment with the strikers to get my best combination because I need to have a balanced squad all the way from defence to midfield to attack.”

Keshi’s experimentation has seen him start with Brown Ideye, then Anthony Ujah and rotating Ahmed Musa and Nnamdi Oduamadi.

Of the four, Oduamadi has scored four goals since the Nations Cup, Musa and Ideye have weighed in one each.

Those numbers are not exactly music to Keshi’s ears, but be continues to back his forwards.

“Sometimes as a player, you have anxiety that plays on your mind. Especially with the young players. It’s something we are working on and we hope to address that in this tournament.”
