The Imo Government has set up a team to monitor and ensure that hotels in the state met their stipulated standard of operation.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Chinedu Offor, made this known when he toured some hotels in Owerri on Thursday.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Goddy Dike, the commissioner said the state government was determined to ensure that guests in hotels enjoyed comfortable and peaceful atmosphere.

He stressed the need for hotel environment to be clean and described Imo as a hospitable state even as he regretted that most hoteliers did not perform their civic responsibility.

“We have decided to rate all hotels in the state; and awards will be given to the best hotel found worthy in all ramifications,” he said.

He called on hotel proprietors to participate in a planned enlightenment seminar.
