FG Moves To Ban Generator Import
The Federal Government has restated its desire to ensure steady power supply in the country, saying the proposal to ban the importation of electricity generating sets may be implemented, soon.
Speaking at the fifth academy for Entrepreneurial Studies in Nigeria (AES) President Goodluck Jonathan who was represented by Works Minister, Mike Onolemen said the move would come under the state of emergency to be declared in electricity sector soon.
According to him, electricity problem would be a thing of the past as all necessary measures are being worked upon.
He praised the efforts of the AES in repositioning the youths of Nigeria through its operation 5000 students entrepreneur programme where 5000 students in each tertiary institution in Nigerian are annually trained on leadership and entrepreneurship free of charge.
President Jonathan said his administration lays emphasis on entrepreneurship and human capital development as it is the administration’s determination to reduce the level of unemployment in the nation.
“That is why the government places much emphasis on the number of jobs each project or contract embarked on will create, he said, stressing that Nigerians are enterprising people who will excel in whatever legitimate venture under an enabling environment.
He noted that the theme of the conference, “Transformational Leadership is Springboard to national and sustainable development”, is timely as the country needs leaders who have the interest of the people at heart.
“This has always been the main thrust of the administration. We believe that leadership comes from God, and thus must be administered in trust.
This is why we are geared at eliminating corruption from the polity”, he said.
In his speech, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar who chaired the event, said issues of good governance and peaceful coexistence are central to any effort at improving the lot of Nigerians and therefore must be taken with all seriousness it deserves.
