Deaflympic Medalist Advises Deaf, Dumb To Take To Sports
A deaf athlete Nuru Badmus, who won a gold medal at the 2012 National Sports Festival (NSF), has urged his colleagues to engage in sporting activities, instead of begging for alms.
Badmus told newsmen in Lagos that sports could provide them the opportunity to showcase their talents.
“I am appealing to deaf people and other special people to engage in sports. Sports will make them more relevant in our society of today.
“It was through my involvement in sporting activities that I am training my two children educationally. I chose sports, instead of begging for alms in the streets.
“Through sports, I am making a name for myself because I choose to look beyond my disability and made use of my passion,” he said.
Badmus, who is currently preparing to represent the country at the upcoming Deaflympic Games in Sophia, Bulgaria; said that he will not disappoint the country.
The Deaflympic Games is billed to hold from July 24 to August 4 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
“I have been training very hard for this. I will try my best for my country to ensure that our flag is hoisted high.
“There is hope for me in sports, besides the monetary gain, sports makes one to be fit,” he added.
