First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, says the growth of the society depends on the quality of education we avail our children.

Dame Jonathan said this last Friday, during the commissioning of Yitzhak Rabin International School and Resource Centre in Port Harcourt.

She described the institution as a well considered investment, adding that it is befitting to name the school after the late Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin who left a legacy as an international statesman, commending the school authority for the conducive environment provided for learning.  She urged the school authorities to be conscious of the compelling need to accord high priority to morals and civic education in order to checkmate the worrisome moral decadence in the society.

Earlier, Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, thanked the school authorities and the Isreali Government for choosing to locate the institution in the State, stressing that, “one of the first things we have pursued with energy and vigour has been the issue of education and bringing this again to add to what we are doing is a boost to educational development in Rivers State”.

In his speech, the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Uriel Palti, noted that the First Lady’s presence at the event symbolised the deep connection between Israel and Nigeria and the common values and aspirations both countries share.

In his Welcome Address, President of Yitzhak Rabin Center for African Development, Dr Blessing Ogini, said since opening the school to the public, it has been providing quality education to children of all backgrounds, pointing out that this would equip them with the relevant skills in addressing the nation’s problems.
