Court Remands Man For Raping Minor
A middle aged man, Emmanuel Umogbe, 36, has been remanded in prison custody by a Port Harcourt Senior Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs Chituru J. Oreh for raping an eleven year old girl.
The accused person, is standing trial on three court charge of raping, assault and malicious damage with charge sheet number ‘PMC 1265C/2013″. The police prosecuting officer, inspector Amakiri Sampson told the court that the accused on the 14th day of June, 2013 at Victoria Street Port Harcourt, did unlawfully and indecently assaulte one Mary Effong by touching her on her private part.
The prosecutor also told the court that the accused on the same date and place, did willfully and maliciously cause damage of a pant belonging to Mary Effiong valued at five hundred Naira (500,00) adding that he unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
He averred that the accused person committed an offence punishable under section 360,451 and 218 of the criminal code, cap 37 VOL.11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
In her ruling, the Presiding Senior Magistrate, Chrituru J. Oreh ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody while the case file be remitted to the office of the Chief Registrar who will in turn remit same to the DPP for legal advice. The case was later adjourned to 30/7/2013.
