Bayelsa Introduces Database For Employment
Bayelsa State Government has taking the initiatives to train many unemployment youths that will fill the gap in its middle manpower needs and the technicians that would be engaged in some of the companies coming to the State.
Towards achieving this objectives, 250 youths are to be trained in different vocations such as automotive technology and creative arts courses forone year at the famous King Amachree Royal Academy, Cotonou, in Republic of Benin.
The Commissioner for Science, Technology and Manpower Development, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, who stated this during her second quarterly press briefing held in her office, said the participants will receive training in several aspects of automotive technology, body and painting, repairs, electrics and electronics, while those with flare for creative vocations will be trained and exposed to current trends in cinematography, photography, graphics, animation and fashioned designing.
Mrs Watson-Jack said “another 20 persons are to proceed to Samsung’s Heavy Industries Shipyard in Goje to receive training in all aspects, that covers offshore welding, fabrication, blistering and painting”.
The Commissioner said, while the state government will spent a total of N1 086 572,854 on those to be trained in Cotonou, those of Samsung will cost the us of N28,270,880.
Reeling out what looks like the success story of her Ministry which was created at the inception of the present administration in the state, Mrs Watson-Jack, 20 computer science and engineering graduates will be leaving for China on a six months specialised training on Information Technology and Communication (ICT). She disclosed that the state Governor has approved N42 million for Growth Business Foundation, civil society organisation to conduct a baseline survey to determine the nature and ownership of businesses in about 200 communities across the state.
According to the Commissioner another 500 Bayelsans will benefit from massive vocational skill training for artisans by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, saying that data base is going to be created “as source for considering qualified and appropriate candidates in selection for training and employment”.
“The underlying principle in this directive is that beneficiaries of our training and employment programmers will continue to be selected from the state wide database”, she added.
On infrastructural development, Commissioner Watson-Jack, said approval has been given for release of funds for the construction of the Centre of Excellence and Innovation
