Association Wants Educational Materials Online

The President of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) Mr Lanre Ajayi has urged the Federal Government to put relevant educational materials online to boost students’ online presence.

Ajayi, gave this advice in an interview with The Tide on Tuesday in Lagos.

He said that putting such materials online would encourage more students to be computer literate.

“Putting vital educational materials online will further enhance the digital literacy of students at youthful ages.”

The expert said that the display of such educational materials online would also help to improve ICT penetration in the country.

Ajayi said that educational contents were critical materials online, adding that it could further boost online demand which was still lacking in Nigeria.

“Internet today is a veritable tool for dissemination of knowledge, creating and consuming information online.

“Hence, relying on textbooks alone will leave the average student without online access, lagging behind with those who have online access.

According to him, the Internet makes it easy to study materials such as textbooks needed for learning.

“Online presence will provide level playing ground to students, especially for students, who otherwise would not be financially able to obtain hardcopies of educational materials.’’

The ATCON president, however, advised parents to secure their computers and mobile phones against online sites that were harmful.

The IT expert also advised schools and libraries to also secure their computers to prevent children from accessing those harmful sites.

He said that the youths could also be self employed through the Internet without engaging in “yahoo-yahoo business” of fraudulent in nature.
