A 45-year-old building contractor, Ademola Kazeem and Olaniyan Adebayo, a 36-year-old architect, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court for allegedly issuing a dud cheque.

The accused were alleged to have conspired together and collected 400 bags of cement valued at N700,000 in October 2012 from one Yusuf Ola under the pretext to pay the amount in a week’s time.

The Prosecutor, Mr  Abdullahi Sanni, told the court that the accused refused to pay the complainant until he was arrested by the police.

Sanni said that police investigation had revealed that the accused issued a Keystone Bank cheque number 29457793 for N700,000 on May 13, but was returned as dud.

He said that the accused were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, cheating and issuance of dud cheque.

Sanni objected to a bail request by the accused on the ground that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mariam Mogaji, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum N50, 000 and two sureties each, and adjourned the case to June 24 for mention.
