As the crisis in the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Rivers State continues to rage on, the former chairman of the party in the state, Barrister Uche Okwukwu has said the crisis is unfortunate but obviously expected.

Barr. Okwukwu, who spoke in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt on wednesday, noted that the current crisis in the leading opposition party was expected because some leaders of the party in the state were not sincere both to the party and the state.

He explained that these leaders set out to consumate mischief to doing what is wrong, ading that they had seen the results of what they had planted.

“Those who gang up against me have been consumed by the contradictions and mischief  they set out to do. The suspension of Mr Esuku Esuku and the counter suspension, I am watching from the sideline. I am still a card carrying member of ACN”, he said.

The former chairman disclosed that the departure of the 2011 governorship candidate in Rivers State was a great blow and huge loss to the party, urging the former Secretary to the State Government and ex-Transport Minister to have a re-thinks.

Okwukwu said he would soon convene a meeting of the party for those who are willing to rebuild the party from the ruins of what has been left behind.

He faulted the appointment of Mr Jerry Needam as the Publicity Secretary of the party, noting that as a publisher and editor of a paper, he would not be objective in his documents.

“As a publisher and Editor of a paper, it is wrong to be an officer of a political party because he must compromise the integrity of the position. He must be biased and cannot see what is good in other parties. He cannot objectively observe issues”, he said.

Okwukwu regretted that Jerry Needam as the Publicity Secretary of the party compromised and went off line and even criticised things that were not supposed to be criticised.

He, however, said the party was in the process of merging with other political parties, adding that the character that will emerge will determine what decision will be taken later.
