Teachers’ Council Restates Resolve To Fight Quackery
The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has restated its resolve to weed out half-baked and quacks in the profession as it inducted some members.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of the council, Prof. Addison Wokocha stated this Tuesday, at the Induction and oath-taking ceremony of graduates of Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Wokocha said the council had set up Teachers’ Investigative Panel in every state of the federation and Abuja, in addition to setting up Teachers’ Tribunal domiciled in Abuja, to instil discipline.
“These two disciplinary bodies, without doubt, will help to raise professional, ethical standards and productivity among teachers, and penalty for offence ranges from suspension to two years’ imprisonment. “We have developed professional standards for Nigerian teachers, like every other profession. we believe that teaching deserves a touch of professionalism. “The standards clearly and precisely define what a professional must know and should put into practice”, Wokocha said.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Boniface Egboka, called on teachers to continuously their knowledge and inculcate technical and entrepreneurial skills in their practice.
Egboka, who was represented by his Deputy (Academics), Prof .Joe Ahaneku, described the place of teachers as crucial in nation building.
