Sale Of Subsidised Grains Begins In Katsina
Faskari Local Government Area in Katsina State on Monday commenced the third phase of its sale of grains to farmers.
The council’s Transition Committee Chairman, Alhaji Isiyaku Faskari-Ahmad, said in Faskari that the grains were being subsidised by 50 per cent.
He said the scheme was introduced in 2012, adding that the council supplied 300 bags of grains for sale each month.
Faskari-Ahmed said the scheme was aimed at assisting less-privileged families with improved nourishment and to reduce the hardship they faced.
He urged sales committees at ward levels to ensure transparency.
He urged the supervising committees to display the bags of grains in public places, noting that each buyer was entitled to four measures of grains at N80 a measure.
Meanwhile, Faskari-Ahmed has distributed food stuffs and N200, 000 cash to displaced victims of armed robbery in Zamfarawa village.
Presenting the items to the victims, Faskari-Ahmad said the gesture was aimed at easing their hardship after the incident.
He urged them to consider the incident as a will of God and return to their places of abode as well as pray against such occurrence in future.
The chairman said the government and security agencies had intensified efforts to apprehend the hoodlums and put measures in place to avert future occurrence.
He reiterated the council’s commitment to supporting voluntary vigilante groups and security agencies to reduce cases of cattle rustling, armed robbery and other crimes.
