PDP Crisis: Obio/Akpor Stakeholders Back Amaechi
Political stakeholders in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have declared their unflinching loyalty and support for the Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
At a stakeholders’ summit in Port Harcourt, the state capital recently, the Obio/Akpor elders and political stakeholders resolved to support Amaechi and commended him for his achievements in the state.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikechi Chinwo appealed to the opposition in the state to embrace the developmental changes of the Amaechi administration and operate within the rule of law.
Chinwo hinted that the meeting was convened to educate the people that they are on course, adding that the changes that are coming would be for the good of all.
According to him “The dynamism of nature, the dynamism of society dictates that there must be changes from time to time. It is left for us as human beings to expect these changes and to make very good use of them when they come”.
He continued: “We are in a democratic society, we are not under any dictatorship. In a democracy what is supreme is the rule of law, essentially when you have three distinct arms of government, the judiciary, the executive and the parliament. So what do we do under a democracy, if you think or if you feel that your right has been infringed upon, you approach the court”.
Hon. Chinwo said “our representatives are trying to misrepresent Obio/Akpor. They are making us look like we are not grateful. It’s on record that Obio/Akpor as a local government in Port Harcourt city and in Rivers State, have the highest number of infrastructural development that is being provided by the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, I stand to be corrected and our representatives are trying to make us look like we are not grateful”.
“I want the people of Obio/Akpor to in one loud voice support and encourage the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, executive governor of Rivers State, that the people of Obio/Akport are very, very grateful. We voted them in but they are not representing us. They are not giving the true picture of how the Obio/Akpor man feels. We are very happy, we are very grateful to Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and we are behind him because he is a great leader”.
Also speaking, a former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Collins Ordu said the people of Obio/Akpor appreciate the state governor for the infrastructural development in the council area, but lamented that some representatives by their actions portrayed the people of Obio/Akpor as being ungrateful to the governor.
