PDP Chieftain Flays Council Chiefs Over Non-Performance

The deputy National Chairman of People Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Sam Sam-Jaja has described poor performance of some council chairmen elected on the party’s platform as the major challenge facing the party during elections in the country.
Dr Jaja who stated this at the Rivers State’s 4th Excellence In Local Governance Initiative (ELGI) Award Night held in Port Harcourt, noted that good governance increased confidence and better perception of the electorates on the political parties that produced the leadership.
He called on the local government council chairmen produced by PDP to explore the opportunities provided to build confidence in the people in subsequent elections in the state and Nigeria in general.
Dr Sam Jaja commended the performing council  chairmen in the state, saying that their outstanding achievements have reduced challenges confronting the party in the forthcoming elections in some parts of the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSIDA) Mr Noble E. Pepple said Local Governance Initiative (ELGI) has so far created public awareness on the performance and non performance of the local government system in Rivers State.
He observed that Agency’s initiative has since its inception built the capacity of the different components of the local government administration in good governance, transparency, accountability, excellence service delivery and budget practices in the state.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Samuel Eyiba thanked Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the initiative, assuring that the ministry would continue to partnering with RSSDA to ensure that ELGI achieved its goals of good governance at the grassroots.
Okrika Local Government Council had emerged the overall winner of the ELGI Award 2013 while Oyigbo and Ogun/Bolo local government councils clinches second and third positions respectively.
The Okrika local government chairman, Hon. Tamuno William thanked Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his land down rules for good governance in the state.
He hinted that he adhered strictly to rules to better the lot of Okrika people.
