NUT NEC Suspends Rivers Chairman, Treasurer

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) National Executive Council (NEC) has suspended the Rivers State Chairman of the union Comrade  Moses Adiela and Treasurer  Comrade Theophilus Worlu respectively with immediate effect from office.

Speaking to The Tide exclusively in his office, the new chairman of the union in the state, Comrade  Godfrey Nwogu who was the former deputy chairman said the union National Secretariat had directed him to take over the mantle of leadership from the former chairman.

Comrade  Nwogu asked to expatiate on the circumstances surrounding the development said he was directed through a letter from the National Secretary of the Union Comrade Obong Ikpa Obong to assume duty as the union state chairman.

The Tide reliable learnt the former chairman and treasurer removal from office may not be unconnected to issue of the state chapter of union disobedience of non remitting the appropriate check-off due collected monthly to the union’s National Secretariat.

The Tide investigation revealed that the alleged non remittance of appropriate check-off  dues has been at the front burner of the state chapter of the union problem with the national secretariat of the union.

The Tide learnt that following this development, the union national secretariat set up a panel to ascertain the obedience and level of compliance of the state chapter of the union to the union’s constitution in relationship to the remittance of check-off dues.

Also all efforts to speak with the suspended chairman Comrade Chief Moses Adiela and Treasurer Comrade Theophilus Nwogu proved abortive as their mobile phones were switch off.

Meanwhile, the NUT State Chairman, Comrade Chief Codfrey Nwogu has promised to ensure that teachers promotion are effectively implemented in the state.

He said “teachers promotions in Rivers State are conducted released but not always implemented, I will ensure the promotions are properly implemented by the state government.

On the 13,000 teachers recruitment, the chairman said he will understudy the situation before meeting with the Governor and Commissioner of Education to ascertain the proper situation of things in respect of the recruitment.

He advised teachers to always strive to carry out their duties diligently, conscientiously and transparently even as he promised the teachers support for the state government.
