NSCDC Arraigns Fake Naval Officer In Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State Command, has arraigned a fake Naval officer, Lasisi Stanley before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for impersonation and other criminal offences.

The accused person is standing trial on a five count charge of impersonation, false representation and forgery before Chief Magistrate Ipalibo F. Iyiabo.

The prosecuting officer, U.J. Chiedoezie told the court that the accused person on the 4th of January, 2013 at the Bonny Waterside, within Port Harcourt magisterial district did commit a felony, to wit, falsely  representing himself to the public and law enforcement agents as a public officer (Naval Officer), on an official duty for the Nigerian Navy for the purpose of ensuring a security-check free passage for movement of illicit vehicles and goods from Lagos State to Port Harcourt.

The prosecuting officer also said that the accused person on the same date within the jurisdiction of the court while wearing the uniform of the Nigerian Navy presented forged letters purported to have emanated from the office of the directorate of Naval Intelligence.

The prosecutor averred that the accused person committed an offence punishable  under section 108 (2), 109 (9) and 467 of the criminal code law of Rivers State and 37 laws of Rivers State (9) 1999.

The accused person pleaded not guilty on all the charges brought against him before the court.

The presiding Chief Magistrate  I.F. Iyiabo granted the accused person bail to the tune of N250,000, two sureties with one pass port each.  The sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, while the prosecutor will verify the address of the sureties. The case was adjourned to May 27, 2013 for continuation.
