NGF Crisis: CLO Sues For Peace
The Chairman, Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) in Abia, Mr Pedro Azuogu, has appealed to members of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to handle the outcome of their recent election with maturity.
Azuogu made the appeal while reacting on the controversy trailing the out-come of the election in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia, recently.
He said that claims and counter-claims to victory by Rivers Governor Mr Chibuike Amaechi and Plateau Governor Jona Jang were unhealthy for the growth of democracy in the country.
Azuogu said: “The NGF is a mature organisation with only 36 governors. I do not understand why and how their election should cause a big problem in the manner that the winner will not be known in clear terms.
“If my personal position is anything to go by, I will implore Amaechi to handle the outcome of the election as a democrat and allow Governor Jang to take over in the interest of political harmony,’’ he said.
He also called on NGF members and the media to respect the presidency, noting that linking the presidency with the controversial election was a mark of disrespect for that institution of authority.
Azuogu, who said he was not particular on the person occupying the presidential seat, called on Nigerians, irrespective of positions to learn to respect the presidency.
“We want a stable polity, and we cannot have it when big forces are clashing at high places.’’
