The call for the removal of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, rather than abet has climbed a new height.

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree, has continued with his earlier calls that the police commissioner be removed in view of his perceived partiality in the raging political crisis in the state.

This time, Amachree, in an “Open Letter to The President”, dated May 11, 2013 released to the media yesterday, alleged that, “Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the legislators and prominent government officials have been marked for assassination, following series of reported nocturnal meetings held in a neighboring State and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.”

The Speaker further alleged that certain unnamed 18 notorious armed robbers and kidnap kingpins currently in detention would be arbitrarily let loose to execute the purported hacking to death of the marked state officials and cause further mayhem in the state.

“The situation is exacerbated with the planned release, from detention, of 18 notable robbery and kidnap kingpins currently in custody to carry out this planned mayhem on the government officials and innocent citizens and residents of the state,” Amachree further alleged.

Citing instances of perceived partiality by the police commissioner, Amachree argued that, “we are left with no other option but to reiterate our avowed resolve to call for the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu.”

Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Udede Jim-Opiki confirmed  the development, when The Tide contacted him yesterday.
