Mrs Elechi Seeks LG Chairmanship Slots For Women
The wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Josephine Elechi, has urged PDP to allot five chairmanship slots to women in the state in the local government elections holding in October.
Elechi made the plea last Saturday at Osso-Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area, when she led a team of Ebonyi women on a tour of appreciation in the area.
“Women have only one chairman out of the 13 local government areas and she performed satisfactorily and was seen as the best in the state. “We, therefore, want up to five slots because we have performed better than the men,” she said.
According to her, women deserve more slots in elective and appointive positions because of their loyalty, steadfastness and identification with the government’s development philosophy.
“The governor has said on various occasions that no woman that has worked with him both in elective and appointive positions failed him. “Party executives have declared that no woman defected from the party during the past general elections. “This shows unbridled loyalty to the party and the government. They should be rewarded and encouraged with more slots,” she added.
She reminded women that the task of realising the goal was enormous and as such they should work in unison, stating “we must, therefore, work together to present the best candidates that would represent us and sustain the tempo of women emancipation,” Elechi said.
The wife of the Council Chairman, Mrs Cecilia Nkama, thanked Elechi for the visit, adding that she had inspired her to enhance the lives of the women in the council.
“I have followed your footsteps in enhancing the lives of women in education, health, human development sectors and promise to do more,” he said.
Some women leaders delivered goodwill messages on the occasion.
