The organised labour in Rivers State has vehemently denied being partisan in the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.
In a joint statement, the chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Chief Comrade Chris Oruge, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Chika Onuegbu and their counterpart of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Emecheta Chukwu denied the partisan appellation of the organised labour in the current political development in the state chapter of PDP.
The labour leaders said as responsible labour leaders, they are committed to the welfare of the workers, rather than being partisan in the political crisis rocking the ruling party in the state.
They said, “we must at all times seek to protect our members and ensure improved welfare packages for them,” stressing that the leadership of the organised labour are not politicians or card carrying members of any political party.
The statement said the labour leaders stand for truth, justice and fairness and advised the politicians to play decent politics with the aim of protecting life and property in the state.
The Labour leaders called upon the workers of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council to resume duty without any fear or intimidation.
They said the organised labour support the state government in its efforts to improving the welfare of the workers through prompt salary payments and better working conditions.
