IG Assures On Officers’ Welfare
The Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, has said that the force was committed to the welfare of its officers.
Abubakar said this while inaugurating the newly constructed Nigeria Police Hospital, Umuahia, recently.
He explained that the building and upgrading of police medical facilities across the country were to ensure physical and mental alertness of personnel.
He added that no police man or woman could provide efficient service unless he or she was mentally and physically alert.
Abubakar, who was Abia State Commissioner of Police in 2001, said he was delighted that things were improving for the better in the state.
The IG said his vision was to build the capacity of the police through policies and programmes that would translate to quality service to the nation.
He thanked the force medical officer and the commissioner of police in-charge of medical in the South/East zone for their commitment in improving health facilities in the zone.
The IGP gave the assurance that he would look into the request of engaging more medical personnel and motivate the existing personnel through promotion and other incentives.
Earlier, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone Nine, Umuahia, Mr Tambari Muhammed, commended the IG for his effort in improving police healthcare facilities in the South/East.
Also, the Commissioner of Police Medical, South/East, Dr Grace Okudo, said the hospital was equipped with ECG machine, Ultra Sound Scanners, laboratory equipment, pharmacy and others.
Okudo, who said the 14-bed hospital could provide standard secondary medical service, appealed to the IG to help recruit more medical personnel to enable the hospital to meet its challenges.
