The Regional General Manager,  South-South, Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa Rivers State, Mrs Ebele Okoye says the Federal Government has take pragmatic steps to make airports in the country safe.

Mrs Okoye stated this Monday while addressing members of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) of the airport to review a morning parade to ascertain their preparedness in complying with the directive of the government to make airports secure at all times.

“Stakeholders in the nation’s aviation industry want an air port environment that is safe, secure and harbours no threat to life and property” the General Manager said.

She explained that air travel should be pretty straightward without any hiccups, noting that it should be a pleasant experience but regretted that in recent years the issue of security breach has made air travelers to be skeptical whenever they are about to fly.

The Regional Manager hinted that the federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has put in place adequate measures to forestall flagrant breach of airport security rules by some miscreants.

According to her, AVSEC members should see themselves as an epitome of discipline and hardwork, noting that they must discharge their duties with uncommon zeal devoid of rudeness  and impudence.

Mrs Okoyo reminded them of the mission of FAAN which is to develop and profitably manage customer centric airport facilities for safe, secure and efficient carriage of passengers as well as goods at world class standards of quality.

She also urged them to handle their assignments with utmost sense of responsibility that would put the minds of airport users at ease whenever they are at the airport.
