FAAN Evacuates Abandoned Aircraft At Abuja Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has embarked on the removal of abandoned aircrafts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The General Manager, North Central, Mr. Chris Bature told newsmen last week that about 70 per cent of the abandoned aircraft had been removed.

Mr. Bature said six out of eight abandoned aircrafts at the airport, which belongs to both government and private operators were removed between January and May.

He explained that the remain two would be cleared within the next three weeks, noting that the decision by the management to remove the aircrafts is for security reasons.

The General Manager hinted that some of the damaged aircraft parked at the airport hangar could be a source of insecurity at the airport.

According to him, “unknown objects can be kept in them which may affect the airport security, we have been able to evacuate quite a number of the unused aircraft on ground in Abuja.

He disclosed that there are issues with the remaining two and the management have responded accordingly, adding that once they are resolved they would be evacuated.
