Enugu To Procure 1,500 Dumpsters For Rural Areas
The Enugu State Government says it will procure over 1,500 dumpsters for waste management in the rural areas to ensure a healthy and flood-free environment,.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the state’s Executive Council meeting in Enugu on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said that the waste bins would cost N159 million.
He said it would help reduce indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways.
Ugwoke noted that the dumpsters would also help in maintaining a clean environment, especially in the rural areas.
According to him, the bins will be distributed to densely populated areas in the state. “EXCO today approved the purchase of 1,500 additional Taylor Continental Galvanised dumpsters at the cost of N159 million.
“In 2011, the state government purchased over 1,049 dumpsters and distributed them within the state capital,” he said.
“This time around, we want to deploy the bins to densely populated places like Nsukka, Udi, Oji-River, Ninth Mile Corner and Awgu. This is in keeping with the drive of the government to ensure a healthy environment and reduce flooding, especially this rainy season,’’ he added.
