Couple Arrested Over Child Theft

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of Enugu State Police Command have arrested one Marcel Agu and his wife Calista Agu for alleged stealing a 12- day old male child from the mother, one Chika Nwokolo in a maternity home along Ebony Paint road, Awkunanaw, Enugu State.

It was also gathered that the arrest of the couple led to the arrest of one Mrs. Nebo Stella and one Patrick Ugwu in connection with the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the report, and disclosed that the suspects are now helping the police in their investigations and will appear in court soon .

In a related development, three persons have been arrested by operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Enugu State Command for allegedly smuggling out six pregnant teenage girls out of their parents’ and guardians’ homes.

Our correspondent gathered that the police acting on a tip off raided No. 7 Anyansi Lane where all the suspects were arrested as they allegedly use that place as their hide out.

The six pregnant teenage girls who have already been rescued by the police gave their names as Chioma Eze, Amarachi Okoro, Gloria Okoye, Uzoamaka Lawrence, Nneji Faith and Akpan Juliana.

It was further learnt that the pregnant teenagers were smuggled out of their various parents’ and guardians homes and kept in a place that is hidden to some people until they give birth to their babies.

The suspects, it was also gathered, had already negotiated with those who would buy the babies as soon as the pregnant teenagers give birth to their babies.

Meanwhile, the suspects arrested in connection with the incident equally gave their names as Lami Lasu, Isha Musa and Anthony Chigbo.

Confirming the arrest of the three suspects and rescue of the six pregnant young girls aged between 15-17 years, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), for Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, stated that investigation into the incident was in top gear.
