Anambra Seeks Communities’ Support For More Courts
The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Peter Umeadi, has solicited for communities’ support for the establishment of more courts in the state.
Umeadi made the call Monday, while inaugurating a Chief Magistrates’ Court at Achalla in Awka North Local Council Area of the state. The court was built by the Achalla community.
The chief judge said that the collaboration would guarantee easy dispensation of justice at the grassroots, adding that there is the need for an enabling environment in which citizens will have the opportunity to ventilate their grievances through the courts at minimum cost.
He said, “this philosophy has led us into re-equipping and re-fitting of all the high and most of the magistrates’ courts in the state.”
Umeadi said that from Dec. 12, 2012 till date, a total of 16 magistrate courts had been re-equipped through the efforts of host communities.
The Chief Registrar of Awka High Court, Mrs Doris Ezeani, disclosed that majority of the cases at the Awka emanated from Achalla.
Ezeani said that most of the case files in Awka would be transferred to the new magistrate court at Achalla as soon as it begins sitting.
The President-General of the community, Mr Alex Igweze, lauded the judiciary for inaugurating the court and promised that the community would continue to support it.
