Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has assured those that lost their property in the recent fire incident at Omitowoju area of Ibadan of compensation.

The governor who gave the assurance when he visited the area last week to ascertain the extend of damage caused by the inferno, directed that the names of all affected persons should be compiled for government to work out palliative measures that would cushion the effect of their losses.

Ajimobi, however, warned against frivolous claims by those who were not affected, adding that government would not entertain fictitious names.

He described the incident as an act of God and urged the victims  not to be discouraged, and advised residences against erecting structures close to the main road to avoid motor  accident.

The governor also warned residents against storing fuel and other combustible items in their houses to prevent fire incidents.

Sixteen houses and 26 shops were said to have been consumed in the inferno, as it was reported that a fuel laden tanker had run into a ditch while maneouvering through the area, spilling its content and bursting into flame.

Three residents – Mr Sunday Ologunde, Mr Sakiru Ajani and Madam Munirat Adelani – appealed to government to ban tankers and other heavy duty vehicles from plying certain roads in the metropolis.

They claimed that the roads in the area were neigbourhood roads that were too narrow and dangerous for such trucks.
