WAEC Commissions PH Office, Soon

Authorities of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), say the Port Harcourt zonal office would be officially commissioned next month.

Deputy Registrar and Zonal Co-ordinator, Port Harcourt Zone, Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan who disclosed this to The Tide at the weekend said the commissioning ceremony would take place  on  May 21, 2013.

Mr Areghan said arrangements had reached an  advanced stage, adding that the event would attract  personalities from WAEC and the  Federal Ministry of Education. According to him to the Governor Chibuike Amaechi was expected to grace the occasion.

It would be recalled that the Port Harcourt branch office of WAEC was formerly situated  at Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road by Waterlines Junction but Rivers State Government in its magnanimity donated a new expansive  complex at Sani Abacha Road.

The new complex has solved the problem of inadequate office accommodation that was affecting the council.

Describing the assistance of the Rivers State  Government to the council as wonderful, the Zonal Co-ordinator   remarked that the commissioning  ceremony is to appreciate the gesture of the state government to the council.

In a similar development, the Zonal Coordinator of Port Harcourt office has warned that the council would deal  with any supervisor who attempts  to promote examination fraud,  saying, would not compromise with  its position on examination malpractice.

Mr Areghan advised any person with evidence of such acts to report officially to  his office,  promising that such supervisor  would be adequately purnished according to the law.
