Vanguard Award: Vote For More Work – Amaechi
The Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi said the award given to him at the weekend is a fresh challenge to work harder.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi made the assertion while receiving the Vanguard Personality of the Year 2012 Award at Expo Centre, Eko Hotels at the weekend in Lagos.
Acknowledging that he has turned down several awards in the past, Amaechi pointed out that the one from Vanguard underscores an acknowledgement of services owed to the people, considering the fact that “we live in a society where honour is scarce … and due recognition even more scarce.”
For Amaechi, “a man should not receive accolade for what he’s paid to do,” but noted that such rare awards are a recognition of one’s contribution to the progress of the nation.
The Rivers State Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to render accountable and transparent leadership anchored on integrity and good governance to Rivers people.
He also promised to ensure steady power supply this year to promote the economic base of the state as well as creation of employment opportunities for the unemployed.
The chairman of Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) used the occasion to thank those who have felicited with him on the award, as he lauded the 32 Senators and 200 Representatives who signed advertorials to congratulate him.
He expressed appreciation to former Military president, Ibrahim Babangida, who also chaired the occasion, the speaker, House of representatives, Aminu Tambawal and billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, for their physical presence.
Amaechi also congratulated the runner-up at the award, Group Managing Director of Access Bank, Aigboe Aig-Imoukhenebe, whom he described as a hardworking Nigerian and humble personality.
The Vanguard award is among the various awards Governor Amaechi has garnered from the media.
Others include Sun Man of the Year, Independent Newspaper Man of the Year and Leadership Man of the Year.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include governors, members of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, and traditional rulers from within and outside the Rivers State.
