Union Demands Employment Of More Health Workers

The Rivers State council of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, has called for the employment of more health workers to service the existing health care facilities in the state.

The Union said this in a communiqué at the end of the 2nd Health week recently in Port Harcourt signed by the chairman, Comrade Mrs Beatrice Itubo and stated zonal secretary Comrade Ofem I. Ojah also urged to harmonise salary and equal pay to all health workers in all tiers of the health care delivery system in the state.

The Union also urged for the appointment of qualified and experienced health professionals to man the different health institutions instead of the appointment of only medical doctors.

Also demanded includes; the creation of enabling environment to enhance holistic healthcare delivery services.

It also thanked the State government for the provision of state of the art facilities for the health institution as well as the provision of Free Medical Services in the State.

The State chairman of the Union, Mrs. Beatrice Itubo decried the situation where only medical Doctors are being appointed into positions of responsibilities in government owned health institutions, thereby neglecting experienced nurses.

Also speaking a trustee of the Union, Comrade Wecheonwu Reuben said that the policy of appointing young graduate doctors to head health centres and hospitals does not promote cordial relationship in the service.
