Police Arraign Workers Over Theft Of Building Materials
Seven workers of an Abuja- based company; DEMMO Aluminium Energy Resources Limited, were last week arraigned at a Karu Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing building materials valued at N7.4 million.
The materials allegedly stolen include Aluminium Coils and Brazilian felt, and the accused persons are Ibrahim Abdulmumuni, 27 (manager), Obasanjo Akadara, 32, Akachukwu Joseph, 28, Tolorunoba Sayepe, 38, Mohammed Bako, 30 (Security Guard), Mayowa Are, 32 and Mohammed Ishiaku, 22.
ThePolice presecutor,Sergeant Abiola Oyewusi, told the court that on the 28th October, 2012, Abdulmumuni conspired with others and handed over the factory keys to the fifth accused person, Bako.
The police prosecutor alleged ,“Bako in turn gave the keys to one Vincent Nnajiefe, who is now at large. They carted away eight rolls of aluminium coils and some Brazilian felt worth N7.4 million.”
Oyewusi further alleged that during police investigation, Bako confessed that he took part in stealing the items.
Prosecutor Oyewusi also alleged that the accused, Mr. Bako, confessed that he was given N500,000 as his own share in the deal.
He further told the court that the offence in question contravened the provisions of the penal code.
However, the accused persons in the case pleaded not guilty to the charge, while the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Hadiza Dodo, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each and one surety in like sum, and ordered that each surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood, reside within the jurisdiction of the court and also swear to an affidavit of means.
