Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), has called on the private sector and well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the federation to realise its objective of engaging students in sports.

President of the federation, Ibrahim Mohammed, told newsmen in Lagos that there was need for children to develop interest in sports to sharpen their skills.

“We as guides need to ensure that these children are groomed from early stages in any sports of their interest, therefore, there is need to ensure that competitions are organised to test their abilities.

“We need more sponsors, it is only through a collaborative effort that we can achieve this; football and basketball are not the only sports students are interested in.

“NNPC/Shell and Nestle are our major sponsors, and they have shown commitment toward the development of this children by organising competitions, but it is not enough, we need more,’’ Mohammed said.

The president added that sports would continue to be one of the most important avenues for restless youths to channel their energy into something positive.

“One thing our leaders fail to realise is that we need restless youths to vent their anger on something that can be positive in the long run.

“Engaging our children from an early age makes them focus their young mind on doing something progressive.

“Look at the north youths unrest, getting this children attention from an early age would give them a focus which is what the NSSF aims to achieve,’’ the president said.
