The Transition Chairman, Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe, has  urged the Federal Government to demarcate the boundary between Anambra East Local Government Area and Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Obidigwe, in an interview in Otuocha in Anambra East Local Government Area, expressed concern over the wanton destruction of lives and property due to land disputes between the Aguleri people in Anambra and the Ibaji people in Kogi.

The boundary dispute between the village neighbours of Enugu-Otu village in Aguleri (Anambra) and Ashonwo village in Ibaji (Kogi) started shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the Orient Petroleum Refinery in Anambra last year.

Many of people were feared dead, while some were  injured with more than 20 houses burnt when the people of the two villages from the two states engaged in series of clashes over their oil-rich land borders.

Obidigwe said, “I will say my appeal to the Federal Government is to hasten the demarcation of that very boundary; to hasten it whether the two communities are fighting or not.“They should hasten up to demarcate; not to trace the boundary; they trace the boundary and demarcate it. Let there be significant symbols.

According to him, “It doesn’t take Nigerian government anything to demarcate it; even if it would come in form of barb-wire, they should do that. “Our country, our government should be a government who would sit-up to ensure that people’s lives are not been taking just as they are been done now. “If you trace the boundary alone and end up tracing without demarcation, this problem may continue; because the local villagers there, they don’t know what you are talking about GPS.
