Govs Fix Achebe’s Burial For May 23

The South East Governors yesterday fixed the burial date of Professor Chinua Achebe on May 23rd  this year.

Anambra State Governor and Chairman of the South Governor’s Forum, Peter Obi  disclosed this after their one day  meeting  with the family of the late Achebe held at Government House, Enugu State.

Obi, who failed to a disclose detailed outcome of the meeting, however, stated that  they deliberated on security, burial of Achebe and the Enugu International Airport.

The first son of the late writer,  Ikechukwu Achebe, who also spoke to newsmen  described his father as a good man who wished Nigeria well.

He recalled that his father,s last wishes was a Nigeria that would be free of corruption as well as a Nigeria that would live up to the expectations of its citizens.

The late Achebe,s first son thanked President Good luck Jonathan for granting him an opportunity to meet with him and his support so far to the family.

He also expressed gratitude to the South East Governors for their support and special indication that his late father,s burial was an important event.

Governors Peter Obi, Martin Elechi,  Theodore Orji and Sullivan Chime of Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu  and Abia States attended the meeting while Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha was represented by his deputy Eze Madumere.
