Girl, 25, Docked For 419
A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Emmanuel C. Woke has remanded a 25 years old girl in prison custody for allegedly obtaining by tricks, otherwise called 419.
The accused, Uchechi Goodluck Ufomba, is standing trial on two count charge for obtaining by tricks and issuing a dishonoured cheque before Chief Magistrate E.C. Woke.
The police prosecuting officer Sergeant Adiari Idafi told the court that the accused person and one other at large on the 31st January, 2013 at about 10.00hrs within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did fraudulently issue a Diamond Bank Cheque with Recipt Number 37757411 in the sum of N920,000.00 in favour of one Joseph Ojo which when presented at the bank was dishonoured because of insufficient fund in the account.
The police prosecutor further told the court that the accused person collected materials, goods valued at N920,000.00 on credit from one Joseph Ojo and fraudulently issued him a due cheque for the payment adding that the accused committed an offence punishable under section 1 (b) (1) of the Dishonoured Cheque Offences) Act, 2004 laws of the Federation of Nigeria and section 516A of the Criminal Code cap 37 Vol. II laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
Ruling on the matter, the Presiding Chief Magistrate Emmanuel C. Woke remanded the accused person to prison and directed the police to ensure that the second accused person and the complainant appear in the court in the next adjourned date. He later adjourned the matter to 12-04-2013 for plea.
