The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, recently inaugurated six ambulances and 24 heavy duty patrol motorcycles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Speaking at the occasion, Onolememem said the ambulances and motorcycles would enhance prompt response to accidents and improve safety enforcement strategies.

The FRSC received the equipment under collaboration between the World Bank and the Federal Government in the financing of the Safety Road Corridor Project, in a ratio of nine to one, respectively.

Onolememem, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Abubakar Muhammad, said the equipment underscored the objective of the Federal Roads Development Project.

The objective, he explained is to reduce accident fatalities by 50 per cent and improve safety on some selected road corridors across the country.

The minister listed the other objectives as the application of series of integrated measures, including crash prevention, enforcement, awareness and post-crash medical care improvement.

“The distribution of these ambulances and motorcycles on the safe corridors will enhance safety management and increase safe enforcement strategies.

“Our determination in this regards, cannot and will not in the least be compromised because the lives of our citizens using these roads is vital for our socio-economic renewal as well as national transformation,’’ he said.
