A former Super Eagles midfielder, Friday Ekpo, has expressed confidence on the ability of the Golden Eaglets to excel at the forthcoming African Football Confederation (CAF) U-17 Championship in Morocco.

Ekpo made the remark in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.

The championship is scheduled to hold from tomorrow to April 27 in Morocco.

The former Abiola Babes FC of Abeokuta midfielder added that the Eaglets have prepared well for the tournament and would make the country proud at the biennial competition.

“I am very hopeful that the Eaglets will do the nation proud in Morocco, we have good players in the U-17 squad and they are capable of lifting the cup.

“The boys have been in camp for a very long time, this will also make the team to blend well in the field of play,” he said.

Ekpo, who also plied his trade with Shell FC of Libreville, Gabon, noted that the current U-17 squad was the youngest team the country has assembled in recent times.

“Most of the players are very young, unlike what we used to have in the past where overage players were paraded as U-17 players.

“I must commend Coach Manu Garba and members of the technical crew for a job well done,” the former Super Eagles midfielder added.

The Golden Eaglets will battle for supremacy in Group B, alongside: Ghana, Congo and Cote d’Ivoire.
