Easter: PDP Urges Nigerians On Truth
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to allow the truth to guide their actions as underscored by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, made the call in the party‘s Easter message to Christians on Friday in Abuja.
The party advised Christians to imbibe the virtues of love and selfless service as exemplified by Jesus Christ, saying it was the only way to ensure “a peaceful and prosperous nation where all will be happy’’.
PDP said further that “it is only the truth that has the ability to prevail against all odds as portrayed by Easter, and truth must be the watchword of all and sundry in the country’’.
The party added that one of the lessons of Easter was that one could only put truth in a grave, but it would exhibit itself as it would not stay there.
“You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise,’’ it said.
PDP advised Nigerians to love one another and to always remain their brother’s keeper.
It called on those in authority to emulate the humility and selflessness exhibited by Jesus Christ and to see their positions as a call to service and not for selfish gains.
The party reminded them of the quotation by the Catholic head, Pope Francis I, which goes thus: “Whoever is the most high up must be at the service of others’’.
It said it was important for Nigerians, especially the elected and appointed office-holders, to assist one another, particularly the less privileged in the society.
PDP further urged them to rise above “petty prejudices’’ to be able to overcome the “forces of darkness’’ threatening to tear the country apart.
“Our being one country in spite of the cultural and religious differences is not an accident but an opportunity to share and cherish our common humanity.
“No force or ideology is strong enough to disintegrate Nigeria. Nigeria has come to stay and will certainly outlive those threatening its corporate existence,’’ it said. The party also called for continued prayers for peace in the country and the world at large.
It commiserated with victims of sectarian crises in the country, as well as their families, calling on public-spirited individuals to show some kindness to them.
