Coach Wants Handball League Revived
The Niger Handball Association Coach, Fidelis Obi, has called for the revival of the national handball league as a way of promoting the sport in the country.
Obi told newsmen that the league was a major platform to enagage players continuously and develop their skills.
He said that it would also motivate state associations and clubs to be committed to preparing adequately to participate in the competition.
“The handball league should be revived for the sport to have its rightful place in the continent because that was what helped us to have strong teams in the past.
“It will be an opportunity for players to display their skills and also enable us to identify and groom them for the national teams.
“We cannot make a head way by grumbling, it is time we stopped paying lip service to the development of handball and face reality”, he said.
According to him, the revival of the league would also attract sponsorships which have always been a major problem and the reason for the dearth of competitions.
The coach, therefore, urged the National Sports Commission to give priority attention to the proposal by the HFN on repositioning the sport.
