An Egyptian opponent, Said Abdumonem, has been named against Nigeria’s King Davidson-Emenogu, the current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Light Middleweight champion.

Davidson-Emenogu, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday, said that the title defence fight would hold in Abuja on May 31.

Davidson-Emenogu said that his opponent, Abdumonem, was selected by the WBO following his intimidating record.

“Abdumonem, according to his profile, has maintained a high profile record in the WBO Light-Middleweight category.

“He had won ten out of ten bouts without any career loss,’’ Davidson-Emenogu said.

The title holder who had earlier boasted to retain his title with any opponent named for the fight, said he remained in high spirits for the bout and he was confident of retaining his title.

“I am not intimidated by his record; all I am concerned about is to be in the right shape for the fight and then everybody will see that I am good to go.

“Abdumonem has a nerve racking record no doubt, but I have trained well. I don’t want to sound overconfident, but I am sure that I will be victorious,’’ he said.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist had insisted that the fight be staged in Nigeria for him to boost his image

“I had been fighting outside Nigeria since I went professional some years back, but I insisted that my next fight should be in Nigeria.

“I insisted to have my next fight in Nigeria to boost my image,’’ Davidson-Emenogu said.

Other bouts expected for the night include Super Middleweight contests between the title holder, Nigeria’s Isaac Ekpo against a Briton, Steve Bendal and Jake Goshing of U.K and Ayi Ayite of Ghana.

In the Welterweight category, Nigeria’s Pelumi Sodubi, would lock horns with Briton’s Joseph Pigford, while the Featherweight category would be a Nigerian affair between Dare Oyewole and Waidi Usman.
