Amakson Wins Academy Soccer Tourney
Amakson Soccer Academy, over the weekend won the maiden All Registered Soccer Academy competition in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The competition which ended in Abuja had 16 teams with Amakson clinching the trophy after a 3-1 win over Dara United Academy, Abuja.
Emmanuel Amakiri, the President of Amakson Academy, told newsmen that he was happy that the academy won.
He said the competition was to bring the youth together and promote unity, both of which had been achieved.
He, however, said that he was not happy because he had expected that national team coaches and league teams would come out to discover new talents that would help in sports development.
“Tournaments like this are supposed to be relevant to coaches in discovering new talents.
“So, I was expecting to see coaches from all over and from the national teams but unfortunately the turnout was low but I know next edition will be better,’’ Amakiri said.
He said that being the first edition, it was successful, adding that there would be an improvement in subsequent editions.
In his remark, Musa Talle, the Chairman, FCT Football Association (FA), said the tournament would remain a yearly event and that effort would be made to have it in age grades.
“The tournament will become a yearly event and the FA is working to make sure that we have this kind of competition for U-17, U-13 and U-12.
“We are now looking for sponsors and we have got about two people that are ready to sponsor the competition,’’ he said.
N150,000 was given to the winner, N100,000 to the runners-up Dara United, while Waco Academy was given N50,000 for placing third.
