Abia: Immigration Deports 20 Illegal Aliens
No fewer than 20 illegal immigrants in Abia have been deported to their various countries in the last one year, an immigration official has said.
The Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service in the state, Mr Henry Okoronkwo said in Umuahia, last Tuesday, that the immigrants, most of them men, were nationals of Niger, Cameroon and Mali.
Okoronkwo said the development had necessitated a sensitisation tour of communities in the state, particularly those at the borders.
“We have been going on a sensitisation tour of communities in the state to enable natives to develop a positive response to those that live among them. “There is a need for all to checkmate its recurrence in order to maintain harmony in our country,’’ he said.
Okoronkwo said the service was alive to its responsibilities in the state noting that at the moment, there was no record of illegal immigrants in the state.
He said that child traffickers had no chance of making breakthrough as the men of the command were on red alert to check their activities.
“We have reinforced surveillance on human trafficking in the state through our anti-human trafficking unit,” he said.
