Zone Six Sets New Records At Police Games
Two new records were set in the 4 x 100 metres men and women relay at the just conclude 10th Biennial Police Games in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
This was announced at the closing ceremony of the games at Liberation Stadium, Elekahia, last Saturday.
Tidesports gathered that zone six which comprises Cross River, Rivers, Ebonyi and Akwa-Ibom Police Command set a new record of 40.96 seconds in 4×100 meters women to beat the old record of 47.88 seconds, set in 1994 by Forces Headquarters.
Tidesports further gathered that in the men event, Zone 11, which is made up of Osun, Ondo and Oyo won the gold medal in the 4×100 meters and also set a new record of 40.39 seconds to erase the previous one set by Zone S, that has Edo, Delta and Bayelsa Police Commands in 1992 at a time of 49.39 seconds.
It was learnt that new records were also set in other events during the competition.
Tidesports understood that a total of 12 zones and the Forces Headquarters Abuja participated in the events, which include athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Basketball, football, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, kick-boxing, swimming, scrabble, shooting, squash, Table tennis, Taekwondo, tennis, Tug-of-war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and Wushu-Kungfu.
However, three non scoring events Polo, Rugby and Dart also featured at the tournament.
