SURE-P Plans Empowerment Scheme For 5, 000 Youths
The Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) in Jigawa said last Monday in Dutse that it had concluded plans to engage 5,000 youths under its economic empowerment programme.
The state Programme Coordinator, Alhaji Alhassan Yusuf, told newsmen that the programme had worked out modalities to address what he described as the nagging problem of unemployment and enhanced wealth creation among youths and women.
Yusuf said that the programme had adopted effective measures to ensure fairness and equal participation in the programme irrespective of class or political affiliations.
According to him, registered unemployed youths will be engaged under the first phase of the economic empowerment scheme in the 27 local government areas of the state.
He said that the youths were registered in the over 2,800 wards in the state, adding that another set of 5,000 youths would also be engage under the second phase of the programme.
“It is a Federal Government programme designed to empower the youth, and enhance wealth creation in the society.
“We are not biased or selective in the registration. We give equal opportunity to all as the programme has nothing to do with politics.
“And that is why we reached out to the grassroots to enhance participation in the programme,’’ he said.
Yusuf explained that 30 per cent of the registered youths were women, while 20 per cent were selected among the most vulnerable groups.
According to him, the youths will be engaged in sanitation and environmental services, and will be paid N10,000 monthly stipends each.
He added that the programme was working in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment to create job opportunities, empower the youth and enhance wealth creation in the country.
