Student Docked For Alleged Stamp Forgery
An SS3 student of a Port Harcourt, based private school and indigene of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr Taribo Kachan, has been arraigned before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly forging official rubber stamp belonging to the United Bank for African Plc (UBA).
The accused, Taribo Kachan, 18 is standing trial on a two-court charge of forgery and other criminal allegations before Chief Magistrate Ipalibo F. Iyiabo.
The prosecuting police officer, inspector, Wilson Isaiah alleged that the accused person on the 19th day of February, 2013 at the United Bank for African Plc, UBA along Olu-Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt in the Port Harcourt Magisterial district did forge United Bank for African Deposit Slip teller No 0590579 purporting to have been issued by the said Bank knowing same to be forged and with intent that it may be used or acted upon as genuine to the prejudice of United Bank for African.
The police prosecutor further alleged that the accused person on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did forge United Bank for African Plc, (UBA) Rubber- stamp purporting to be the original.
He averred that the accused person committed an offence punishable under section 467 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty in all the charges adding that the alleged forged teller was not true.
The presiding Chief Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety. The surety would deposit four passports, sworn affidavit of means the police would investigate the address of the surety which must be within the jurisdiction of the court.
The matter was later adjourned to April 16, 2013 for mention.
