Security Firm Proffers Solutions To Pipeline Vandalism
The Managing Director of a foremost private security outfit in Nigeria, Halogen Security Limited, Mr. Wale Olaoye, has said that solutions to the recent upsurge in pipeline vandalism, loss of lives and other valuable assets can only be found in a focused determination by firms to employ high-tech innovations that will involve experts’ input in developmental management processes.
He spoke in Abuja at the unveiling of new pipeline security solutions at the just-concluded Nigeria Oil and Gas Exhibition, the firm said in a statement recently.
The firm participated as a major exhibitor, alongside its technical partner, United States-based EarthSearch Communications International.
According to the statement, the firm has also concluded plans to participate as a Platinum sponsor and official mobility and security partner of the annual International Fire and Security Exhibition and Conference 2013 slated to hold in Lagos on March 5 and 6, 2013.
According to Olaoye, the main solution to pipeline vandalism lies in high-tech integrated GPS/RFID security management system, tagged, ‘LogiBoxx, which has the capability to promptly monitor and send up-to-the-minute security situation report.
“This ingenious solution is our proactive response to the unwholesome oil theft and growing incidence of pipeline vandalism, which has continuously brought turmoil to the nation’s economy, disrupting commercial activities and causing inconsistency in oil distribution lines leading invariably to market fluctuation in oil prices with great negative impact on the world economy,” he said.
Explaining how the security solutions works, the Chief Executive Officer, EarthSearch Communication International, Mr. Kayode Aladesuyi, said the device used GSM network for communication and was powered by solar technology, which allows it to operate even in some of the most remote areas of the world.
He said any tampering with or attempt to break into the oil pipeline would cause the sensor technology to send an alert to EarthSearch’s LogiBoxx using radio frequency RFID tags.
“The system, especially allows Nigerian oil and gas companies to monitor tens of thousands of kilometres of pipeline remotely using sensor technology integrated with the EarthSearch proprietary GPS/RFID products,” he said.
