RSG To Partner Christian Council Project On Sports Dev

The Rivers State Government has assured Christian Council Project (CCP) Elekahia of its readiness to partner with the school in the development of sports.

The Commissioner for Sports, Fred Igwe, stated this during the fifth Annual Inter-house atheletic sports competition of the school last Saturday.

Igwe, who was represented by his Director, Sport development, Chief Edwin Amadi, said that the state government is interested in assisting the college through the provision of sports facilities.

He urge the authorities of the school to write formally to the ministry of sports, outlining all that is required for sports development in the school for consideration and approval.

He also use the medium to commend the staff and parents of the school for their sense of unity.

Earlier, the dean of the project, Rev. V.P Ekwere (JP) had said that the event was incompliance with federal government’s directive through the state Ministry of Sports that both public and private schools should encourage grassroots sports development.

He, therefore, appealed to sports lovers, parents, and co-operate bodies to invest in the sporting future of their children and wards.

Commending the staff, students and parent for their co-operation which led to the success of the event, Ekwere regretted that the school could hold sports event was not able to events in the past five years due to non availability of sporting facilities despite formidable   sport environment.

The event ended with Yellow House wining the gold medal, while Blue and White Houses lifted silver and bronze medals respectively.

Parents also ran hundred metre race as side attractions.

Commending the sporting spirit of the students the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State command who spoke through the Divisional Police Officer (D.P.O) in-charge of Elekahia Police Station who was also represented by Mrs Uduak Effiong charged them to shun anti-social tendencies promising that police were ready to provide them with 24 hours security surveilance.
